Equip your team with the skills to spot workplace hazards before they cause an injury. This safety huddle guides staff through conducting an environmental scan, a key part of any point of care risk assessment. Discover how to build a proactive safety culture and protect your healthcare team.

Instructions

Arrange to have this huddle in a space where you can project the environmental scan image for everyone to see. If this is not possible, print a copy of the image to pass around so each staff member has an opportunity to examine it.

Using the guiding questions, facilitate a discussion about workplace hazards and the importance of doing a point of care assessment, including an environmental scan, before starting a new task.

After this huddle staff should be able to:

Assess an environment for hazards before providing care.

Notes to the huddle leader

Dealing with hazards should include preventative measures, not just reactive ones.

  • What hazards can you see in this image?
  • How can the hazards be minimized or eliminated?
  • If you were this care aide, how would you approach this situation?
