Motor vehicle incidents are among the leading causes of traumatic workplace injuries and fatalities in BC. The Safe Driving for Work Checklist has been developed to help employers and their workers take proactive steps to manage driving-related risks. This checklist serves as a practical guide to reinforce safe driving practices and is designed to be used before, during, and after each trip.

In long-term care it is increasingly apparent that who is on shift is just as important as how many staff are on shift. Quality care is difficult to achieve when we do not routinely engage with one another in a positive, or civil, manner.

Danger Dodgers

Danger Dodgers is an innovative, game-based safety training that flips traditional education on its head—by bringing the learning directly to frontline staff using a cart.

Instead of pulling staff away from their duties for lengthy training sessions, Danger Dodgers delivers quick, engaging, Jeopardy-style sessions right on the floor, in 10–15 minute intervals. This minimizes disruption, eliminates the need for backfilling, and keeps team members close to their residents—supporting both safety and continuity of care.

The fun, interactive format not only boosts participation but also helps staff retain critical safety knowledge. By reducing stress, avoiding extended absences, and making learning enjoyable, Danger Dodgers improves workplace safety, enhances awareness, and strengthens everyday safety practices across the team.

How to play Danger Dodgers

Presented by Broadway Lodge (The Broadway Group) at the 2025 Safety Den

About

Danger Dodgers is a health and safety take on Jeopardy built in PowerPoint. This is a great game for staff education as well as resident programming. It can be widely adapted, from Christmas trivia to safety questions. This a fun educational format that surprises one and all with their ability to share their wisdom and learning!

Editing the template

The PowerPoint template can be found on SafeCare BC’s innovation database (link on this page)

The PowerPoint template uses internal links between slides. You can change the five topics, simply by clicking on the boxes within the game board on slide four.

Working from left to right, you must count down the slides four at a time to match the point amount. For example: under Emergency Response – 100 point slide matches to slide 5. 200 points matches to slide 6 and so on. Then for the next column, Fire Response, you count down to slide 9 for 100 points, 10 for 200 points and so on basically counting 4 slides per column.

Operating the slide show

Start the slide show as you would any PowerPoint.

When the game board (slide four) is in slide show mode – click in the middle of the point value. It will jump to the corresponding slide and the ‘answer’ will appear. Once ready for the respondent’s ‘question’ to be matched to the slide question simply click again on the slide and the expected response will appear on the screen.

To return to the game board – simply click in the STAR in the bottom right corner of the slide.

To end the game – simply click anywhere within the game board and it will take you to the end of the game to “thank you for playing Danger Dodgers!” (If you click on a point value that has NOT been played, it will continue to play the game. If you want to exit, you can click on a point value that has been played or between the lines to end.)

Note: The well-known music, familiar to this game, will play for the first three slides automatically.
