Webinar

Compassion begins with curiosity

Explore simple, practical ways to notice and reduce stress while at work.

This webinar will not be recorded for later viewing.

Care work asks us to show up, day after day, for people at their most vulnerable – often with too little time and too few resources. This webinar moves past the usual “take a bubble bath” advice. Instead, we will explore simple, practical ways to notice and reduce stress while we’re at work, not just once we get home. Through real stories and helpful research, we’ll look at how being curious – about ourselves, our coworkers, and our residents – protects the heart of why we started care work in the first place, helping us stay grounded and present, shift after shift.

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the real causes of burnout and fatigue on the floor, and see how they are different from everyday work stress.
  • Use simple, in-the-moment tools to stay calm, protect your energy, and handle challenging moments in your workday.
  • Use curiosity to understand what’s behind a resident (or relative’s) behaviour or a coworker’s tension, instead of taking it personally.

Executive Director

Françoise (pronounced “France-WAS”) is the Executive Director of TEND, a consulting firm that offers training to a broad spectrum of workforces encountering stress and intense workloads. A Registered Psychotherapist based in Kingston, ON, she is a subject matter expert on workplace stress, trauma, and burnout. Before specializing in organizational stress, Françoise served as a front-line crisis counsellor with several community agencies and also worked with members of the Canadian Military returning from combat. She is a trained Palliative Care volunteer.

The child of two French-Canadian teachers, Françoise spent her early years in Canada’s far North. Growing up in the Arctic profoundly shaped her worldview and developed the social justice lens through which she explores the impact of burnout, secondary traumatic stress, and empathic strain across all communities. Françoise is a founding member of the Secondary Traumatic Stress Consortium and the author of The Compassion Fatigue Workbook, as well as numerous articles and professional publications.
