The Working Mind is designed to:

  • Increase your awareness of mental health
  • Reduce stigma and other barriers to care in the workplace
  • Encourage mental health conversations by transforming the way participants think and talk about mental health and mental illness
  • Strengthen your resilience in order to maintain wellness
  • Help you support yourself and others
  • Promote your organization’s mental health
  • Help participants identify poor mental health in themselves and others
  • Give participants the coping skills to manage stress and poor mental health
  • Review mental health rights and responsibilities
  • Create a more supportive work environment

The Working Mind for Employees offers practical knowledge to increase participants’ overall comfort level with mental illness. Upon completing the course, employees will be able to:

  • understand mental health and mental illness
  • recognize its signs and indicators, in themselves and others
  • reduce stigma and negative attitudes toward people with mental health problems
  • maintain their own mental health and improve their resilience.

The Mental Health Commission of Canada (MHCC) has customized The Working Mind to best align with the lived experience of staff in a care giving role. MHCC has collaborated with individuals to ensure it captures the current and past experiences of staff. This customization also includes scenario-based lessons, videos that feature people with lived experience of mental illness, reference guides, and practical handouts.

How long is this workshop?
This is a 5-hour, instructor-led workshop.
Who should attend this workshop?
This workshop is designed for all employees in non-managerial roles who want to learn about how mental health can impact you in the workplace. It is a safe space to share experiences and coping strategies with other workers.
How do I request a private workshop?
Email training@safecarebc.ca with the following information: 1) the requested workshop, 2) how many potential participants and, 3) three potential workshop dates (ideally 4-6 weeks out from the request date).
