In this session, participants will learn about a real-life WorkSafeBC case study where a long-term care home resident exhibited challenging behaviour that resulted in unintended physical injuries to a Healthcare Assistant (HCA). After recovering from their physical injuries, the HCA continued to experience health challenges related to PTSD and mental health. This case study chronicles the HCA’s recovery journey and the pivotal role the HCA’s employer played along with the occupational therapist in facilitating a return to full pre-injury duties and hours. The session addresses the key approaches and actions taken by the employer, occupational therapist, WorkSafeBC case manager and other stakeholders in contributing to a successful return work outcome as well as the HCA’s return to their other routines and activities outside of work.
