Strengthening a Culture of Respect and Engagement (SCORE)

Is incivility in the workplace affecting the care you provide or the well-being of your staff? Do you want to enhance and improve your workplace culture?

Transform your workplace culture with SCORE.

Workplace incivility undermines our sector by negatively impacting staff well-being and compromising the quality of care.  We are excited to subsidize two SafeCare BC member organizations through the SCORE program to support these organizations in overcoming the negative impacts of workplace incivility.

What is SCORE?

The SCORE program (Strengthening a Culture of Respect and Engagement) is designed to strengthen workplace cultures by promoting civility, respect, and engagement and helping front-line staff learn a sustainable model for overcoming negative dynamics that weaken a culture of respect.

Benefits of SCORE

  • Proven to enhance civility within teams
  • Focuses on recognizing what’s working well and then builds on successes by making small, incremental changes to improve relationships that build mutual respect
  • Fosters a supportive environment where everyone contributes to positive change

Participants report:

  • Increased vulnerability and openness among staff, with less stress and more smiles
  • A shift towards peer-led problem-solving and reduced workplace complaints
  • A noticeable reduction in adverse resident behaviour

What you’ll get if accepted into the program:

Your organization’s investment in the SCORE program is $10,000. SafeCare BC will match that to cover the full cost of the program. Your investment gets you:

  • You’ll learn how to run a huddle
  • Get customized and ongoing facilitation, coaching, mentorship and support through the 9-12 month program
  • Pre- and post-survey assessments
  • Final report with a certificate of completion

Program details:

Once your organization has been selected for the program:

  • We’ll present the program to your JOHS Committee
  • We’ll arrange for a pre-program assessment survey for all participants
  • We’ll lead monthly training sessions for all participants, and a senior leader
  • We’ll arrange monthly follow-up meetings between the facilitator and senior leader/manager
  • You will arrange weekly huddle meetings for two groups within the organization of up to 15 staff who would naturally work together on a day-to-day basis
  • We’ll arrange for the post-program survey of all program participants
  • We’ll present a final report

Criteria

  • Lower Mainland-based organization (or pay facilitator's travel costs)
  • Leadership buy-in and a willingness to commit up to 3 hours/month
  • $10,000 fee to participate in this pilot project
  • Commit to pre-program survey, weekly huddles, monthly meetings and post-program survey
  • Willingness to allow some filming for program development and promotion for the 2026 cohort
