In long-term care it is increasingly apparent that who is on shift is just as important as how many staff are on shift. Quality care is difficult to achieve when we do not routinely engage with one another in a positive, or civil, manner.

SafeCare BC Member Survey 2023 Results – We asked. And you told us.

July 12, 2023

Recently, we dared you to tell us what you think in our member survey. More than 1,000 of you accepted the challenge. Thank you.

We created an infographic that shows some of the highlights. There were a few things that stood out.

Is your health and safety committee in need of some love?

63% of respondents strongly agreed or agreed that their organization’s occupational health and safety committee is effective at addressing health and safety concerns.

If that’s your organization, give your colleagues a high-five. But don’t get complacent, because there’s more you can do to stay great.

If your organization is in the 37% that thinks your safety committee…well, there’s probably lots of words you could use, but let’s agree there’s room for improvement.

Don’t worry, we got you. Head on over to our Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee webpage or contact our very own Jen Derksen at jderksen@safecarebc.ca. She loves occupational health and safety committees and is waiting to help your committee become great.

Focus on mental wellness

Mental health and well-being of staff was the top health and safety concern for 54% of respondents and by a huge margin, psychological health and safety was the topic most people wanted to learn more about it. You’re probably not surprised by that, and neither are we. Your work is rewarding, but it’s physically and mentally demanding. And unfortunately, we hear that the environment in some workplaces isn’t as civil as it should be. We’ve got your back and some great resources to help you and your colleagues.
