In long-term care it is increasingly apparent that who is on shift is just as important as how many staff are on shift. Quality care is difficult to achieve when we do not routinely engage with one another in a positive, or civil, manner.

"Innovation in action" - Louis Brier Home and Hospital wins big at Safety Den 2024

May 31, 2024

Our annual Safety Den event is more than just a competition—it's a chance to celebrate and share ideas from people like you—people passionate about improving workplace health and safety. As one audience member said, the event showcases "innovation in action."

This year's winner is Louis Brier Home and Hospital, who took home the top prize of $2,000 after impressing the Safety Dragons with their innovative “Worker Health and Safety Dashboard.”

“It keeps workers informed about workplace hazards and incidents,” says Loren Tisdelle, Director of Human Resources at Louis Brier. “When staff clock in, they may not realize what incidents are happening around them.” The dashboard presents data in an easy-to-understand manner and can be accessed on any device. “Armed with insight, workers can better anticipate risks and prevent work-related incidents.”

Louis Brier will use the prize money to continue developing their dashboard.

Continuing a Safety Den tradition, Eden Garden placed second with its "You Matter App." The Nanaimo-based care home has consistently supported the event, and this year was no different.

Broadway Lodge put up an impressive showing with their "Active Living Program" and took third place.

In the commercial category, Savaria Patient Care won the Safety Innovation of the Year award with their Raizer II Lifting Chair. HME Home Health and MUSIC CARE by Room 217 were the runner-ups.
