Ten years ago, SafeCare BC was established to ensure the safety and well-being of workers in the continuing care sector in British Columbia. And for ten years, our mission has been to empower you to create a safety culture through evidence-based education, advocacy for safer workplaces, leadership, and collaboration.
Join us as we celebrate this milestone with some exciting content.
The year it all began. In 2014, SafeCare BC was established and began operation with just one employee—Jennifer Lyle. Our first workshop was held, and the "Be Care Aware" campaign was launched.
You may remember 2015 as the year "Left Shark" took the Super Bowl by storm, or as the year we couldn't decide if a dress was blue and black or white and gold. For us, it was the year of firsts. The first strategic plan and annual survey were created. The Technical Advisory Committee was established, and we introduced a new course: Safe Handling.
While many people were busy playing Pokemon Go, or watching the summer Olympics in Rio, SafeCare BC hosted the first Safety Den—which has become one of our staple events. The Frontline Communications Working Group was also established in 2016, as a way to allow frontline workers to provide input on our work.
