June is Indigenous History Month, a time to reflect on the histories, cultures, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples, and to deepen our understanding of what respectful, culturally safe care looks like in practice. Cultural safety is increasingly recognized as essential to providing high-quality, person-centered care—but what does it actually look like in everyday moments on the floor?
This session invites participants to explore the connection between cultural safety, psychological safety, and quality care in long-term care settings. Through real-world examples and lived healthcare experiences, we will look at how cultural safety shows up in daily interactions with residents, families, colleagues, and teams. Participants will leave with a clearer understanding of how culturally safer environments build trust, strengthen relationships, and support both staff wellbeing and better care experiences.
