Motor vehicle incidents are among the leading causes of traumatic workplace injuries and fatalities in BC. The Safe Driving for Work Checklist has been developed to help employers and their workers take proactive steps to manage driving-related risks. This checklist serves as a practical guide to reinforce safe driving practices and is designed to be used before, during, and after each trip.

In long-term care it is increasingly apparent that who is on shift is just as important as how many staff are on shift. Quality care is difficult to achieve when we do not routinely engage with one another in a positive, or civil, manner.

Support Services Appreciation Day

Celebrate the work of support services staff. The fourth annual Support Services Appreciation Day is June 26

Celebrating support services staff

Behind every warm meal, clean room, and well-maintained workplace stands a dedicated support services worker whose contributions often go unnoticed. These essential team members are the backbone of quality care, transforming long-term care buildings into true homes where our elders can thrive with dignity and comfort.

Support services workers wear many hats throughout their demanding days. They rise early to prepare nutritious meals that cater to special diets and individual preferences. They maintain safe, welcoming environments through meticulous housekeeping and prompt repairs. They ensure residents have fresh linens and clean clothing, handling laundry with the same care they'd show their own families. Beyond these visible tasks, they offer companionship, remember residents' favourite foods, and notice the small details that make each person feel valued.

Other ways you can show your support

The support services team at Creekside Landing

You don’t need a big budget or a big event to show your appreciation — just a little effort can mean the world to a support services worker. Here are a few simple ways you can celebrate this special day:

🍕 Host a pizza party – because nothing says "thank you" like pizza!
✍️ Write a heartfelt thank-you card — a few genuine words can leave a lasting impression.
🎂 Bring in a cake or treats - because who doesn't love cake?
🗣️ Include them in a safety huddle — it’s a great way to say, “You’re a valued part of this team.”
🖊️ Start a gratitude wall — put up a banner and invite others to add their own messages of thanks.
