Motor vehicle incidents are among the leading causes of traumatic workplace injuries and fatalities in BC. The Safe Driving for Work Checklist has been developed to help employers and their workers take proactive steps to manage driving-related risks. This checklist serves as a practical guide to reinforce safe driving practices and is designed to be used before, during, and after each trip.

In long-term care it is increasingly apparent that who is on shift is just as important as how many staff are on shift. Quality care is difficult to achieve when we do not routinely engage with one another in a positive, or civil, manner.

Laila’s Story: Creating Care Experiences That Go Beyond the Job

June 27, 2025

When it comes to going above and beyond, Laila, our Service Coordinator at Classic LifeCare, leads by example.
In her role, Laila supports older adults and other individuals requiring care, living at home, helping coordinate services that allow them to stay safe and independent. But her care doesn’t stop at coordination, she actively steps into meeting her clients where they are, both physically and emotionally.

In Comox, Laila has run foot care clinics for years, offering essential care that many clients, including veterans, rely on. For some, these clinics are more than just a health service. They’re a connection point, a chance to be seen, heard, and cared for with compassion and respect. Many clients return regularly, not just because they need care, but because they trust Laila and her team.
Laila also saw a gap in how end-of-life care was being approached and chose to act. She pursued additional training to become a certified Death Doula, allowing her to support clients and families during some of life’s most difficult transitions. Through thoughtful conversations and planning, she helps people express their wishes and values, creating space for a more dignified, empowered end-of-life experience.

“It’s about giving people the ability to focus on living well, right to the end,” Laila says. “Having support in those final days can make a huge difference.”

From foot care to final care, Laila exemplifies how support services staff can create care experiences that go far beyond expectations, making a lasting impact on the lives of clients and their families.
