This document is intended for managers, supervisors, workers and joint health and safety committee members. It outlines the steps in a risk assessment and details completing a job hazard analysis.

Managing risk includes identifying hazards, assessing the risk and deciding on control measures to eliminate or minimize the risk. When identifying hazards, it’s essential to look for all the conditions and situations that could harm your workers or workers on your sites, such as contractors or contracted service providers.

A Risk Assessment is the overall process of hazard identification, risk analysis and risk evaluation and includes:

  • Hazard Identification which is the process of finding, listing and characterizing hazards
  • Assessing the degree of risk of injury or illness for the hazards that have been identified
  • Determining and implementing measures to eliminate or control those hazards
