The basics of incident investigations

This introductory webinar breaks incident investigations down, and teaches the two types of investigation reports and the components of an effective investigation.

When an incident happens, knowing what to do next can make all the difference. This introductory webinar breaks incident investigations down into the key questions: When should an investigation happen? Who should be involved? How should it be carried out? Where does the process begin, and why does it matter?

Participants will also learn about the two types of investigation reports and the three key components of an effective investigation. Designed as a practical introduction, this session will help participants better understand the investigation process and feel more confident navigating it when an incident occurs.

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  1. Explain the purpose and basic principles of an incident investigation.
  2. Describe the when, who, how, where and why of the investigation process.
  3. Identify the two types of investigation reports.
  4. Recognize the three key components of an effective investigation.
  5. Understand how incident investigations can help identify contributing factors and support prevention efforts.
