Vicarious trauma and vicarious resilience

Workers may experience both vicarious trauma and vicarious resilience at the same time. This webinar explores how to mitigate the impacts of vicarious trauma.

This interactive one-hour webinar will explore the linked concepts of vicarious trauma and vicarious resilience. As many healthcare workers know, hearing and engaging with complex and disturbing stories can lead to vicarious trauma. Vicarious trauma involves transforming a worker’s inner experience and worldview. The concept of vicarious resilience (coined by researchers Hernandez, Gangsei and Enstrom in 2007) demonstrates that the worker’s transformation may also be a healing experience. Workers may experience both vicarious trauma and vicarious resilience at the same time. We will consider how to mitigate the impacts of vicarious trauma. Participants in this webinar will also apply the concept of vicarious resilience to their work.
