In long-term care it is increasingly apparent that who is on shift is just as important as how many staff are on shift. Quality care is difficult to achieve when we do not routinely engage with one another in a positive, or civil, manner.

Healthy aging as a daily practice

Healthy aging doesn’t begin at 65, it begins now. This seminar invites participants to see aging not as an end-stage, but as an ongoing, daily investment.

Healthy aging doesn’t begin at 65, it begins now. This seminar invites participants to see aging not as an end-stage, but as an ongoing, daily investment.

Together, we will challenge the discomfort around aging conversations and replace it with curiosity, purpose, and intention. Through a review of Canadian demographics, viewers gain insight into who we are across generations and why these matters for the future of work and health. We use the metaphor of a long-term investment portfolio, showing how small daily actions— behavioural “credits and debits”—compound over time to influence our aging trajectory. Drawing from Blue Zones research, this session identifies lifestyle habits that promote health span, not just lifespan. It also explores how shifting our mindset around stress can strengthen resilience.

Mindful practices such as connecting with your future self, focusing on meaningful experiences over material gains, and increasing awareness of workplace safety will be framed as critical tools in aging well.

Learning outcomes:

  • Recognize aging as a lifelong process and understand the value of early investment in well-being.
  • Explore why conversations about aging matter—personally, culturally, and organizationally.
  • Interpret Canadian demographic trends to inform workplace and health planning.
  • Apply the “health as a portfolio” mindset using daily behaviours as long-term investments.
  • Identify strategies for healthy aging, including Blue Zone habits, mindset shifts, mindful practices, and injury prevention.

With a background in biology and over 20 years of experience in Human Resources, Lyne Moussa has built a career around one core belief: healthcare starts from within. As a wellness-focused HR leader, coach, and instructor at Simon Fraser University, she empowers individuals and teams to take ownership of their health, choices, and work life. Her approach blends empathy, truth, and accountability, offering not quick fixes, but meaningful tools and space for real conversations. From pioneering the role of Wellness Manager before it was mainstream to delivering mental health workshops for hundreds of leaders, she has witnessed the power of mindset shifts to reduce burnout, build trust, and reconnect people with their purpose. Outside of her professional life, she trains alongside her sons, a practice that has grown into both a personal passion and a business. As a certified personal trainer, she integrates physical strength with mental resilience to support well-being at every level. Whether coaching a new leader, developing workplace wellness strategies, or helping someone navigate difficult decisions, she shows up grounded, honest, and focused on what truly matters—because while life can be complex, with the right support, it can also be transformative.
