In long-term care it is increasingly apparent that who is on shift is just as important as how many staff are on shift. Quality care is difficult to achieve when we do not routinely engage with one another in a positive, or civil, manner.

Support Services Appreciation Day - Menno Place - Rosie

September 15, 2024

The Patient Ambassadors at Menno Place play a crucial role as infection control screeners during the fall and winter seasons. Through diligent daily screening protocols, they work to protect residents from COVID-19, flu, and gastrointestinal outbreaks. Their efforts embody the facility’s commitment to Resident & Family Centered Care, fostering a safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment that reassures families and their loved ones are well cared for.

During the spring and summer, after flu season ends, the Ambassadors transition into a versatile relief team. Each day, they arrive ready to assist wherever needed, whether by supporting fellow support service workers, nursing staff, or other areas. To date, Ambassadors have contributed to chaplaincy, feeding, recreational activities, quality improvement projects, event coordination, monitoring residents’ emotional and physical well-being, and much more. Their dedication and passion for ensuring the highest quality of care for those we serve are evident in their diverse contributions.

We would like to spotlight Rosie Flaming, a Patient Ambassador at Menno Home. Rosie consistently goes above and beyond in her support of staff and residents. Hardworking, adaptable, and always ready to lend a hand, she has recently completed education and training to feed residents in long-term care. Rosie has adjusted her working hours to arrive earlier in the mornings, assisting the staff with breakfast and lunch. Her deep care for the residents is reflected in her actions.

Whether she’s feeding a resident, having a compassionate conversation with a family member, or facilitating activities with the recreation team, Rosie’s dedication to quality and her commitment to excellence is clear in the meaningful relationships she has built at Menno Place.

It is both a pleasure and a privilege to work alongside her. Thank you, Rosie, for all that you do.
