Safety Den 2022 Recap

June 1, 2022

Safety Den made its return at the BC Care Providers Association’s annual conference last week. Three finalists from two categories—healthcare and commercial—pitched their health and safety ideas to the Safety Dragons: David Hurford, Kerry Bowman, and Terry Lake. Here are the results.

Sidney Care Home – First Place

Sidney Care Home took home the top prize in the Healthcare category. Their nautical-themed Sailing for Safety initiative impressed the Safety Dragons with its creativity and simplicity.

Designed to encourage staff to participate in education and training, Sailing for Safety blends education and entertainment—and that’s what Safety Den is all about.

Eden Gardens - Second Place

A familiar spot for the Safety Den veterans, Eden Gardens once again took second place in the competition. Their entry Safety—It’s all in the Details! challenges you to spot the safety hazards in photos taken by staff.

Check out this example image. What hazards can you see?

Nikkei Home – Third Place

Let’s face it, reading up on health and safety policies and procedures can be long and tedious. That’s where Nikkei Home comes in with their Safety Flash Cards. Their submission aims to streamline the process by using flashcards for concise learning.

Their entry earned them a spot in the top three.

Dexterra Group Inc. – Safety Innovation of the Year Award

After a brief hiatus, the Commercial Category returned this year, with Dexterra Group Inc. taking home the Safety Innovation of the Year Award. Making use of QR codes, their submission helps streamline the use of safety data sheets.
