Workplace Psychological Health and Safety Coach

The Workplace Psychological Health and Safety Coach will lead SafeCare BC’s mental health and well-being strategy, which aligns with its strategic plan. The role will partner with the occupational health and safety team within SafeCare BC to develop and promote the programs and supports that SafeCare BC delivers to enhance psychological health and wellness in the continuing care sector. The position will work with provincial partners to enhance existing programs, develop new programs, and provide coaching to SafeCare BC members on workplace psychological safety.

This contracted position is designed to meet a growing need for dedicated mental health support in the continuing care sector. The position should bring experience and expertise to shape this new and important role for the sector.


  • Key contact for inquiries and services related to workplace psychological health and safety
  • Provide resources and education on topics including general mental health information, coping with grief, dealing with anxiety, caregiver burnout, building a positive workplace culture, stress management strategies, and other relevant topics to the workplace
  • Provide mental health and wellness consulting and coaching services to support the development of programs or strategies for SafeCare BC members
  • Conduct a gap analysis to increase SafeCare BC member organizations’ awareness of psychological health and safety in the workplace.
  • Guide the implementation of the National Standard for Psychological Health and Safety in the workplace for SafeCare BC
  • Provide coaching and guidance to employers on general mental health and how to support employees
  • Develop new and continuous content for the SafeCare BC website to create a constant flow of mental health information that is relevant to the care
  • Provide informed input on the mental health services provided to the continuing care sector
  • This is not a counselling or crisis line service but may include referring to appropriate resources.
  • Collaborate with industry experts to remain at the forefront of psychological health and safety advancements.


  • A relevant university (bachelor's or master's degree) in psychology, sociology, social work, counselling, nursing or a related field
  • Working knowledge of the healthcare sector, particularly long-term and community care
  • Demonstrated experience working in the mental health field, providing counselling, coaching, education and/or training in the area of mental health in the workplace
  • Strong understanding of evidence-based treatment modalities
  • Open-minded and flexible in thoughts and tactics
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and project management skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Skilled with virtual meeting software platforms
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to handle multiple projects and manage time well.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet operational and strategic goals

Work Environment

  • Travel throughout BC as required

Note: This is an 18-month contract position with the potential for extension.

Additional Information:

There will be times when members of the SafeCare BC team will be expected to visit care homes to engage in activities that support our members. Vaccination with a COVID-19 vaccination series approved by Health Canada is a condition of employment at SafeCare BC.
