SAFECARE BC ANNUAL REPORT 2025

Message from the Board Chair

Board Chair’s 2025 annual report message

It's a privilege to be writing to you again.

Before anything else, on behalf of the Board of Directors — thank you.

Thank you to our members, who show up every day in complex, demanding environments and still choose to lead with care and commitment to safety. Thank you to our sector partners, peers, and facilitators who lend their expertise and time to strengthen this collective work. And thank you to our Board and committee members, whose thoughtful governance and willingness to wrestle with difficult questions ensures SafeCare BC remains trusted, relevant, and responsive.

My role as Board Chair isn't to speak to operational achievements — you'll hear about those from our CEO — but to reflect on what they represent.

The shifts we're seeing across our sector are the result of trust built over time, and of a shared belief that health and safety isn't a checklist — it's a culture. When organizations are stable, when people feel supported, when learning is practical and ongoing, and when leadership is values-driven, something important happens: people stay. Engagement improves. And people get safer — physically and psychologically.

This past year has reinforced something the Board holds strongly: SafeCare BC exists because collaboration works. No single organization, role, or perspective can move workplace health and safety forward alone. Progress happens when members, partners, facilitators, leadership, and governance align around a common purpose — and remain willing to learn, adapt, and lead together.

Looking ahead, the Board is focused on three things: being a steady, trusted presence in a changing sector; supporting innovation without losing sight of our core mandate; and strengthening the systems that protect people now and for the long term.

I'll close with a simple ask. As you move through this report and into the year ahead, I invite you to reflect not just on what SafeCare BC does — but why it matters. Why it matters to your organization, to the people you employ and support, and to the future of care in this province.

Thank you for your trust, your partnership, and your continued commitment to safer, healthier workplaces.

Thriving together

SafeCare BC strives to empower those working in BC's continuing care sector to create a safety culture through evidence-based education, advocacy for safer workplaces, leadership, and collaboration.
