SafeCare BC's 2024 Member Survey provided invaluable insights into the evolving needs and perceptions of British Columbia's continuing care sector. With a record-breaking 1,300 responses from frontline workers, leaders, managers, and other stakeholders – a 29% increase from 2023 – the survey painted a clear picture of our impact and areas for future focus.
Key Findings:
- Strong Awareness and Engagement: SafeCare BC enjoys strong recognition, with 76% of respondents aware of our organization. Engagement remains high, with 43% interacting with us in the past year, primarily through courses, resource downloads, webinars, and events.
- Valued Education and Resources: Our educational offerings and resources were highly praised, with 98% of respondents providing positive ratings. The emphasis on relevant, applicable content directly impacting their roles was appreciated, along with the accessibility of online resources and interactive learning opportunities.
- Positive Impact on Safety Practices: SafeCare BC's influence on safety practices is evident, with 95% of respondents reporting increased awareness of safety risks and 94% acknowledging improved safety within their organizations. Over 80% have changed their work practices due to our initiatives, demonstrating a tangible impact on the sector.
- Persistent Challenges and Priorities: Mental health and well-being, fatigue, and responsive behaviours remain top safety concerns, mirroring the learning priorities of psychological health and safety, dementia care, and musculoskeletal injury prevention. Lack of resources, including time, staff, and funding, pose significant barriers to implementing safety improvements.
- Confidence in Post-Secondary Education: Encouragingly, most post-secondary students feel confident in their preparedness to work safely in the healthcare sector, citing comprehensive health and safety education received in their academic programs.
