SAFECARE BC ANNUAL REPORT 2023

Leaders Forum

On March 30, 2023, we held the inaugural Leaders Forum at the Shadbolt Centre in Burnaby, BC.

Twenty-five senior leaders representing long-term care, home and community, and our union partners participated in a two-hour session designed to engage participants and capitalize on their combined expertise to collaborate and share solutions that can lead to reducing workplace injuries across the sector.
We know that factors leading to workplace injury are varied and complex. We also acknowledged the systemic issues that contribute to increased risk of injury: funding, chronic staffing shortages, aging infrastructure, and others. And while we can help influence change concerning these systemic issues, we can't let them hold us back from creating safe and healthy workplaces.

Guided by a pre-event survey of sector leaders and frontline workers, four topics were chosen for discussion. Forum participants were asked to share successes they've experienced in their organizations and identify possible solutions. In addition, participants shared ideas on how leaders across the sector can continue the conversation on health and safety.

Participants rated the event as excellent and said they would likely use what they learned in the forum to improve health and safety in their workplace.
"It was a great morning. Very productive for the amount of time allocated."
"Thank you for making the day happen."
