In 2013 SafeCare BC gained the role of industry leader for injury prevention in BC’s long term care sector. In 2017, SafeCare expanded our mandate to include the rapidly growing community health support services sector.

With the initial goal of creating a measurable difference in work related injuries, SafeCare BC remains committed to an active injury prevention strategy in the continuing care sector.

  • A final consultation meeting was announced for August 19, 2013 to discuss our SafeCare BC application and 2014 proposed WorkSafe BC rates, and by October 1st, 2013 a contract was signed between WorkSafe BC and the BCCPA to launch SafeCare BC. For more details, click here.
  • On May 6th 2013 WorkSafe BC made a presentation about SafeCare BC at BCCPA’s 36th Annual Conference. The presentation highlighted the goals of SCBC and the importance of the organization.  To view the presentation from Stephen Symon click here.
  • On December 12th, 2012, the BC Care Providers Association made an application to WorkSafe BC to establish a new continuing care safety association. Based on a successful model in Alberta, SafeCare BC was put forth as a strategy to reduce the severity and frequency of on-site injuries for people employed in the continuing care sector.
