This morning, the Be Care Aware event was held at Pinegrove Place in Richmond where Parliamentary Secretary for Seniors Darryl Plecas officially proclaimed Thursday, Sept. 24, 2015 as Be Care Aware Day in the province of British Columbia.
“The provincial government is honoured to proclaim September 24 as Be Care Aware Day,” said Parliamentary Secretary Plecas. “We support a safe work environment for all health care workers and we are actively working with our partners to make health care spaces as safe as possible for staff and patients.”
Joining MLA Plecas on stage was Jacqueline Holmes from WorkSafeBC, Daniel Fontaine, CEO of the BC Care Providers Assocation, Executive Director for the Denominational Health Association, Susan House as well as Pinegrove Place staff members.
The events room at Pinegrove was packed full of industry stakeholders, continuing care staff and seniors who call Pinegrove home.
“Today’s event really emphasized that Be Care Aware Day belongs to all of us. We each have a role to play in creating a culture of safety in the continuing care sector,” said SafeCare BC Executive Director Jennifer Lyle. “Seeing the room full of people from all over the health care industry as well as the staff and residents of Pinegrove shows that people are taking this issue seriously and they want to make a change.”
